Use your church member directory as a weekly working list
Use church member directory views to review new records, group connections, and app invitations, then check the context and assign a useful next action.
What decision will your team make from the member list this week?
Start there before opening the directory. A long list becomes useful when it helps someone prepare a specific conversation or complete an agreed task. Here are three working views and a sensible way to use them.
New this month: check the welcome handoff
Review recently added records and confirm that each person’s intended next step is understood. An added record can come from an import or staff entry; it does not necessarily mean a first visit happened this month. Open the profile for the context.
Not in a group: prepare an invitation where appropriate
The list shows people with no recorded community-group connection. Ask whether the directory is up to date and whether a group invitation would be welcome. Some people participate in ways that are not represented by this filter.
Never logged in: review the invitation journey
Check whether an invitation was sent, whether the email is usable, and whether the person wants help accessing the member app. A missing app sign-in is a technology signal. It does not tell you whether the person is connected to church life.
In TheFaithApp, start with a directory view, then narrow it with group, tag, status, joined date, or search filters. Choose columns that help the task. Clear unnecessary filters before deciding the list is empty.
Save a useful filter combination with a plain name such as “New records to review.” Saved directory views and column choices stay on the browser you are using. Give a colleague the filter settings if you want them to recreate the list.
For one person, open their profile and agree on the next action. For several people, review the selection before adding a tag, adding them to a group, opening Communications, or exporting selected rows. Being on a list is context for a decision; it is not a reason to send a generic message to everyone.
A weekly directory routine can be short:
- Choose one question
- Review the matching view
- Check the underlying records
- Assign the appropriate next actions
- Return to unfinished commitments
Save this routine and try it with one ministry team first.
